Virat Kohli: We have to play our best cricket against Pakistan

India and Pakistan begin their T20 World Cup 2021 campaign at Abu Dhabi on Sunday (October 24). The arch-rivals will be locking horns after a long time and that’s why this is expected to be an exciting clash.

The two teams have met each other in the T20 World Cup on five occasions and India have won all of those matches. That includes the final of the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007 as well. But India skipper Virat Kohli isn’t looking much at such records.

“We never discussed these things, about our record and past performance,” Kohli told reporters on the eve of the highly anticipated clash.

“These things create distractions. What matters is how we prepare and execute on that particular day, regardless of the opposition,” Kohli added.

He also went on to express how strong a team Pakistan are and that’s why India need to bring their A-game forward against them.

“Pakistan, according to me is a very strong team and always has been a strong side,” he said.

“You have to play your best cricket against them, because they have lots of talent and players who can change the game.”

Pakistan have already announced their 12-man squad for the contest and their skipper Babar Azam has been quite upbeat about their chances of winning this match. While they won their first warm-up game against West Indies easily, they were taken down by South Africa in their second match.

India, on the other hand, are coming into this match having won both of their warm-up matches. While they won by seven wickets against England, India humbled Australia by eight wickets.
