Even when India aren’t on tour Down Under, Virat Kohli remains one of the biggest talking points in Australia. The Indian batting great has enamoured the fans and cricket lovers of Australia with his amazing exploits in the country over the years and has touched even some of the game’s biggest names with his rich ability.

Kohli has an incredible fan following all over the world but it is especially relevant in Australia, a country where many find him their own with his aggressive ways and champion mentality on the field.

Over the years, the modern-day batting giant has reserved some of his best performances for Australia. Since his first international tour to the country back in 2011-12, Kohli has played 13 Tests, 29 ODIs and 11 T20Is in Australia.

The 33-year-old made his maiden Test hundred in Australia and has since gone on to make another five centuries in Tests Down Under. Virat Kohli averages 54.08 with 1,352 Test runs, 51.03 with 1,327 ODI runs and has struck at 144.55 with 451 T20I runs in Australia.

Commentators shower rich praise on Virat Kohli during the Ashes

A fine example of how much Australians love Virat Kohli came at the start of Day 3 in the second Ashes Test in Adelaide on Saturday (December 18) when Australian commentators heaped rich praise on the Indian Test match skipper, lauding him for his great record at the highest level.

Fox Cricket commentary panel members Steve O’Keefe and Adam Gilchrist expressed their awe for Kohli, stating that they “love” watching him play and that his stats make him stand amongst the greatest cricketers that the game has seen.

Even one of Virat Kohli’s finest moments as India captain came in Australia. During the 2018-19 summer, Kohli’s India became the first-ever Asian side to beat Australia in Australia in a Test series when they pulled off the Border-Gavaskar Trophy with a 2-1 scoreline.

It was the team shaped out of Kohli’s image that repeated the great feat earlier this year even as the inspirational skipper could only play the first Test and returned home on paternity leave. Stand-in captain Ajinkya Rahane and rest revived India from the ignominy of 36 all-out and defeat in the first Test to earn memorable victories in Melbourne and Brisbane.
