Out of IPL 2020, Virat Kohli shifts to Team India’s bio-secure bubble

Team India captain Virat Kohli has moved into the national side’s bio-secure bubble after RCB was ousted from the IPL 2020. Kohli will reportedly take a couple of days off before starting his preparations for the upcoming tour of Australia.

On Friday, Virat Kohli-led Royal Challengers Bangalore was knocked out of the IPL 2020 with a 6-wicket defeat at the hands of Sunrisers Hyderabad. This season marks the eighth year under Kohli’s captaincy that RCB has failed to lift the coveted IPL trophy.

“Virat Kohli moved into the Team India bubble late last night after the game against Sunrisers Hyderabad. He is likely to take a day or two off and start preparing for the series in Australia,” news agency ANI quoted a source as saying.

Virat Kohli had recently spoken about his time inside the IPL’s bio-bubble. Talking to his franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore’s YouTube channel, Kohli said, “It’s repetitive, it’s not as tough when the group of guys is amazing, which we have… Everyone part of that bio-bubble is really nice; the vibe has been so good. That’s precisely why we’ve enjoyed playing together, just enjoyed our time in the bubble as well. But it does get difficult at times because it is repetitive.”

He further added that, given most players will be moving from one bio-bubble to another, the length of the tours will have to be considered going forward.

Most squad members are part of the IPL 2020 and have been in the UAE since August. The tour Down Under will stretch to the new year, leaving the players on the road for more than four months with little connection to the outside world.

The India contingent, including the support staff, will depart together in a chartered flight from Dubai once the IPL 2020 concludes. The Australian cricketers, part of the on-going season, are expected to leave alongside their Indian counterparts.
