Virat Kohli – “Will stop playing the day my aggression goes”

Share

Virat Kohli played his final T20I game as captain of the Indian team against Namibia, and the side provided a stellar performance to win the game by 9 wickets. This game also brought an end to a memorable 4-year stint of Ravi Shastri as head coach, who oversaw some massive results for the side over the course of years.

After the game was done, Virat Kohli mentioned that his aggression will not drop down or change despite giving up captaincy. He reaffirmed the fact that it is his pillar, and also stated that the day his aggression dips down is the day he will stop playing cricket.

“That is never going to change. The day it does, I’ll stop playing cricket. Even before I became captain, I have always loved to contribute in some way or the other,” the Indian Test skipper said.

The 33-year-old is set to continue in the longest format as captain, whilst Rohit Sharma is the favorite to take over the duties in white-ball cricket. Rahul Dravid has already been announced as the new head coach, which has sent a lot of positivity among fans.

Will this help Virat Kohli – the batter?

In the post-match show, Virat Kohli mentioned that offloading the burden on his shoulders was one of the main reasons why he gave up the captaincy in the smallest format. It is a popular belief that 3-format captaincy had impacted his batting a bit too much, which resulted in the RCB skipper not scoring an international century in over 2 years.

However, once the captaincy facet is off his table, Kohli should be able to bat a lot more freely and is expected to thrive under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma as a batter. Not to forget, he is the highest run-scorer in T20Is, and has been one of the most prolific run-scorers the game has witnessed. It won’t be surprise if the side decides to take a call on his ODI captaincy as well.
