Ind vs Aus ODI: Virat Kohli might have to bowl, believes Tom Moody

Tom Moody, Australian cricket legend believes Virat Kohli might have to bowl a few overs to solve the sixth bowler problem in the upcoming ODIs. Indian bowlers were taken to the cleaners in the first ODI against Australia, as Steven Smith and Aaron Finch registered tons to guide them to a score of 374.

In the Indian bowling unit, only Mohammed Shami had respectable figures of 3 for 59 in his 10 overs. Yuzvendra Chahal was hit all over the ground as he ended with figures of 1 for 89 in his 10 overs. Jasprit Bumrah and Navdeep Saini picked up a wicket each but conceded 73 runs and 83 runs respectively. Ravindra Jadeja could not do much with the bowl either as he went wicketless in the first ODI.

Hardik Pandya has already stated that he will not rush himself into bowling with the T20 World cup in sight. The all-rounder has had his back problems, for which he underwent a surgery last year. With Pandya slotting into the team as a pure batsman, Tom Moody believes the India captain, Virat Kohli might have to bowl a few overs.

“It will be interesting to see how they manage it. What’s the alternative option? Perhaps Kohli himself might have to bowl few of his little mediums. One of things that is becoming quite clear even though it’s early days in the tour and I’m only talking the white-ball series is that Australia look far more settled and organised as a unit,”said Tom Moody.

“They’ve got all their bowling options sorted. They’ve got experience in those bowling options at Finch’s disposal,” Moody added.

Tom Moody believes that the Australian batting lineup is strong and robust

Tom Moody also compared the batting units of India and Australia and said that the Australian batting lineup stronger and robust. He also pointed out to the fact that the Australian batting lineup had more match winners as compared to India.

“Their (Australia’s) batting is strong, it’s robust. They’ve got a number of players that can put together match-winning performances, whereas India I think are still finding their way with their batting order,” Moody said. “They are clearly finding their way with regard to the depth of their bowling. So there’s lots to think about and ponder for India,” he added.

Australia will face India in the second ODI on Sunday at the same venue. India will need to win the match in order to keep the ODI series alive.
