In an otherwise highly intense IPL 2021 encounter on Friday (October 1), a funny little moment featuring Punjab Kings (PBKS) batter Aiden Markram and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) pacer Tim Southee still caught everyone’s attention.

Markram found himself in the midst of an unexpected incident when a ball that he had missed for an attempted pull shot against Southee, somehow lobbed up in the air and crashed onto his helmet.

Usually such a classy, orthodox player, the South African right-hander had a rare clumsy but funny moment in the middle of the ground.

Aiden Markram has been a welcome addition to the PBKS playing XI in IPL 2021.

Aiden Markram gets the ball crashing onto his helmet

The incident is from the second ball of the 15th over in PBKS’ run-chase against KKR in Dubai. Facing Tim Southee, Aiden Markram went for a pull shot but the Kiwi pacer’s skiddy nature saw the ball coming onto the batter a touch too quickly than what he had expected.

Markram missed the ball. However, it somehow rolled up his body and lobbed up in the air. And as Markram wondered about the whereabouts of the ball, he realised its direction in a hilarious way when it bounced right onto his helmet.

Having taken a few steps outside his crease, Markram made sure he got back in so as to not allow Southee to run him out.

But after taking the run-out possibility out of the equation, Aiden Markram was seen offering a grin back to the bowler, who also couldn’t help but produce a beaming smile.

While Southee picked up the ball from the side of the pitch, commentator Simon Doull erupted in laughter at what had just happened.

Once the delivery was completed, Markram was seen practising his pull shot and looking a touch disappointed that he couldn’t connect his stroke as he had intended.
