WATCH: Ambidextrous India-born Australia U19 spinner Nivethan Radhakrishnan bowls dream ball in U19 WC opener

India-born ambidextrous spinner Nivethan Radhakrishnan displayed his promise and talent in Australia’s opening game of the ICC U-19 World Cup 2022 on Friday (January 14).

Playing against tournament hosts West Indies at the Providence Stadium in Guyana, Radhakrishnan got West Indies lower-order bat Anderson Mahase bowled with an absolute peach of a delivery.

Bowling his off-spinner, the 19-year-old got one to turn and jump sharply from wide outside the off-stump. The delivery went to hit the right-hander’s middle and leg stump.

Nivethan Radhakrishnan’s ‘dream ball’

It was a dream delivery for any off-spinner, as Nivethan Radhakrishnan drew the right-hander forward with his drift, before the ball dipped and turned viciously past the batter’s willow to dislodge the bails at top of the stumps.

The beautiful delivery was one of the highlights of the opening game of the latest youth World Cup being played in the Caribbean.

Nivethan Radhakrishnan is one of the cricketers to watch out for through this U-19 World Cup. Born in November 2002 in India, Radhakrishnan moved with his family when he was a kid aged 10 and pursued his cricketing dreams Down Under.

The young gun is known in the Australian domestic circuit for bowling ambidextrous spin. He can bowl as an accurate left-arm spinner as well as a classical off-break tweaker depending on his and his team’s needs against a specific batter – a luxury and talent that very few bowlers in the world possess.

Radhakrishnan has represented Australia at the U-16 age bracket as well and was picked to make his senior domestic debut by Tasmania for the 2021-22 home summer.
