Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) thrashed the Punjab Kings in a one-sided encounter in the IPL on Friday (April 1). They chased down 138 runs in less than 15 overs courtesy of sensation power hitting from Andre Russell. The Caribbean brute smashed an unbeaten 70 off just 31 deliveries with 8 sixes and two fours.

However, it didn’t seem to be an easy chase until the 12th over of the innings with Punjab bowlers making it hard for the opposition. However, in the 12th over, Russell launched an assault on Odean Smith out of nowhere and suddenly, it became a cakewalk for the two-time champions.

Smith started off with an absolute gift, floating a half volley down the leg-side and Russell just needed to put bat to ball to add four runs to the tally. The next two deliveries went for a huge maximum which showed the brute power that the Caribbean batter possesses. Smith didn’t do much wrong as he tried his variations but Russell just cleared his front leg and marauded the ball over the ropes for 88 and 84 metre sixes.

The bowler did well to come back as the short ball next up worked for him. But off the very next ball, normalcy resumed. Smith dished out a length ball and Russell didn’t need a second invitation to smack it straight down the ground into the sightscreen. He didn’t time it well and even though the ball hit the toe-end of the bat, it sailed over the boundary comfortably thanks to the brute force behind it.

Odeon Smith recollected his thoughts then and delivered a decent sixth ball to concede only a single but his misery didn’t end there as the man had overstepped. He would’ve been relieved that Russell wasn’t on strike for the free-hit but Sam Billings too decided to join the fun. He showed off his hitting style with a mighty cross-batted swing down the ground.

Smith ended up conceding a massive 30 runs in the over that included four sixes and a four and the contest in the game had ended completely. All the hard work done by the Punjab bowlers earlier in the innings was undone as KKR cruised home with 33 balls to spare.]
