Ravichandran Ashwin has been in the news since his last game for all the wrong reasons, but today he pulled a rabbit out of the hat to seal a brilliant win for his side. The Delhi Capitals seemed to be down and out during their run case in Sharjah, when their 6th wicket fell and they needed 27 runs. However, both Ashwin and Shreyas Iyer ensured there was no slip-up for the Capitals.
They realized time was never a problem, and showed the maturity to keep themselves in the game. To cap it all off, was the sensational hit that helped Ashwin finish the game. Krunal Pandya was preparing to bowl the final over with just 4 runs to get. He heaved a full-pitched delivery over mid-wicket, ensuring there was no further drama in the game. The ball traveled 61 meters far, not significant but considering it’s Sharjah, Ashwin didn’t need extra effort.
Krunal Pandya, who earlier hit a six off Ashwin in the first innings off the last ball of the innings, did not seem impressed, but his side had to suffer their 7th loss of the season, putting their hopes of qualifying for the playoffs in jeopardy.
The six made Ashwin quite happy, alongside his Delhi teammates. This also ensured the Capitals got into the next stages of the tournament with two league games to spare. However, they will be keen on not letting things slip as one more win can confirm their place in the top two, which will give them two shots at reaching the final.
Considering the fact that 10 out of the last 11 winners of IPL were in Qualifier 1, Delhi will push hard in the next game to get those points and confirm their status in the top two.
Ashwin delivers on the field with the spirit of cricket debate still looming around
Ravichandran Ashwin gave an elongated response through a Twitter thread, explaining his stance on the incident that divided the cricketing fraternity. However, he ensured that wasn’t the only talking point about the man, delivering a crucial contribution for the Capitals under pressure.
Ashwin was expensive with the ball in hand, conceding 41 runs in his 4 overs on a day the scoring rate was under 7. The only wicket he managed was of Jayant Yadav right at the end, but his contribution with the bat saved his day.
