Early days into the IPL 2022, the name of Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) middle-order batter Ayush Badoni is doing the rounds for his evident talent and promise. Fans are left wondering where this 22-year-old Delhi batter was and why wasn’t he given his due recognition in the IPL before?

The youngster became one of the only uncapped Indian batters to produce a half-century on IPL debut when LSG took on fellow new entrants Gujarat Titans (GT) on Monday (March 28). Badoni produced a 41-ball 54 after walking into a difficult situation for his team.

More than the runs, it is the skilful nature and solid temperament that stood out in that innings from Ayush Badoni, who showcased maturity beyond his years for the Giants at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Those traits were on display during LSG’s next match as well on Thursday (March 31) when he walked into another tricky situation for the Giants and helped them secure victory over the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), playing a critical cameo of 19 not out off 9 deliveries.

Badoni’s innings helped LSG overcome the defending champions in a high-scoring fixture and get on the points table in their second match. But before he hit the winning runs, the right-hander was involved in a rare incident where his attempted six went on to hurt a lady sitting in the stands of the Brabourne Stadium.

Ayush Badoni played another impressive knock for Lucknow Super Giants.

Ayush Badoni’s clean sweep six pleases LSG fans but hurts a lady

The timing of that six was crucial for Ayush Badoni and his team. With 34 needed off the last 12 balls, the high-scoring bout was running away from Giants a little bit. They needed a big over to get the momentum going their way. Badoni’s sensible and skill sweep six provided his team exactly that, as they got a timely maximum to put all the pressure back on CSK.

The bowler involved was CSK allrounder Shivam Dube, who tried to make the batter hit through the off-side on an attempted wide yorker. But lack of speed on Dube’s delivery gave Badoni just enough time to get across and underneath the ball and duly dispatch it through the on-side for a memorable six.

But while it would’ve been a pleasing maximum for all the LSG fans, a lady sitting in the stands was left with a bit to complain after that stroke looped in the air straight onto her back in the stands. The lady was in visible pain after the blow off the right-hander’s bat. Thankfully for her, she later recovered and was seen fine.

It was only a nine-ball cameo but one with great sense and skill on show from Ayush Badoni. Despite walking in with another 40 runs needed off just 16 balls, the youngster didn’t panic and attempt any high-risk strokes. He waited for CSK’s inexperienced death bowlers to come on and unleashed his wrath on them with each hit played according to his strengths.
