West Indies batter Andre Russell got out in a bizarre manner during the second of Friday’s doubleheader in the Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2022. While playing for Minister Group Dhaka in their opening game against Khulna Tigers at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium, Russell perished while trying to pick up an easy-looking single.

In the final ball of the 15th over, Russell patted the ball on the off side and set off for a single. Tanzid Hasan Tamim, who was patroling the short-third man region, tried to throw down the stumps at the striker’s end to get Mahmudullah out. Tamim found his target, but the Dhaka skipper made his ground without having to break much sweat.

Thereafter, in a rather hilarious turn of events, the ball ricocheted from the stumps at the striker’s end to the timber at the non-striker’s end. Russell was caught napping, meanwhile, and was caught short of his crease. The Jamaican was ambling across before the run-out took him by surprise. Replays on the big screen confirmed the same.

Here’s the video of Andre Russell being run out by weird throw in BPL 2022

Russell started his knock with a single before smashing Perera for a colossal six over the long-on region. Just when he was set to help Dhaka post a formidable score, he got out. The dismissal didn’t affect Dhaka much as they scored 58 runs in the last five overs. After being put in to bat first, Dhaka racked up 183 for six on the board.

Mohammad Shahzad blazed away to a quickfire 27-ball 42 after which Tamim Iqbal notched a patient half-century. In the end, Mahmudullah’s 20-ball 39, decorated with two fours and three sixes, took Dhaka past the 180-run mark.

Kamrul Islam Rabbi was the pick of the bowlers for the Tigers as he picked up three wickets, although he went for 45 runs. Mahedi Hasan couldn’t make a breakthough, but kept a check on the run-scoring, conceding only 24 runs in his quota of four overs.
