WATCH: Faf du Plessis involved in another collision episode; scares fans

Faf du Plessis was involved in another ugly collision during Saturday’s fixture between Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings.

CSK had cruised to a great start in the powerplay thanks to another strong opening stand between du Plessis and Ruturaj Gaikwad. In the final over of powerplay, Faf slammed Mustafizur Rahman for a massive six to up the ante but suffered a horrible collision the next ball.

After chipping the ball down to mid-off, Faf took off for a quick single with both him and Mustafizur ball watching. As Faf neared the non-striker’s end, he realised he was heading into Mustafizur and tried to move away, but couldn’t avoid a terrible collision.

The South African was spotted wearing a grim look soon after as the physio rushed in to conduct tests. Faf had just recovered from a concussion episode during the Pakistan Super League earlier this year. He had to withdraw from The Hundred in England after realising he wasn’t fully fine after the collision even after a month of it happening, but returned with success in the Caribbean Premier League.

Before his return to the CPL, Faf du Plessis had expressed what he had gone through in the period he was out with concussion.

“I went over for the first match [in the Hundred] to try and play, but I still suffered quite severe concussion symptoms quite badly and especially with the batting it got worse,” Faf du Plessis said. “It’s been three or four weeks since then [during] which I have worked hard in trying to get back to normal with a good rehab programme, and specialists in England helped me with. Today is the last hurdle when [I am] just making sure I pass the full practice at full intensity. And if I do that, then I’ll be ready to play [his team’s CPL opener].”

The episode in the Rajasthan Royals vs Chennai Super Kings game as such was scary for du Plessis. Luckily, he picked himself up from it soon after and resumed batting. He could only add one run to his score before he was cleaned up by Rahul Tewatia.
