Beth Mooney reserved her best fielding act of the World Cup 2022 for when it mattered the most to Australia as she nearly flew across to her right for an excellent grab in the semi-final against the West Indies on Wednesday (March 30).

Mooney took one of the catches of the tournament, coming in the way of West Indies opener Rashada Williams’ well-timed pull shot and diving one-handed to her right to secure the grab with both her feet in the air.

It was a moment made for the list of cricket’s most picturesque fielding efforts. Normally donning the gloves for her team, Beth Mooney showed she can be a real handful for her side in the outfield as well.

No gloves? No issue for Beth Mooney.

The catch was witnessed by fans all over the globe in its full glory on the penultimate ball of the fourth over in the West Indies run-chase. Aiming to get off strike, Williams’ eyes lit up as she saw a rare short-pitched delivery from the disciplined Megan Schutt. She executed the shot perfectly and would’ve felt secured off a boundary at that point.

Just then, however, Beth Mooney came in her way and pulled off an exciting catch to send her back without any fault of her and made a late entry into the catch of the World Cup race. A clip of the same went viral over social media, with fans soaking in the moment of Mooney flying her way to complete the catch.

Earlier in the game, Mooney provided the perfect finishing touches to Australia’s magnificent effort with the bat.

Walking into bat at 236/3 thanks to fantastic knocks from the opening pair of Rachael Haynes (85) and Alyssa Healy (129), the left-hander played her part wonderfully by smashing the West Indies attack for a 31-ball 43 not out.

The 28-year-old took the Australians to an insurmountable 305/3 in their allotted 45 overs of a rain-marred fixture at the Basin Reserve in Wellington.
