Harpreet Brar took an incredible catch to pin Venkatesh Iyer during Punjab Kings’ (PBKS) match against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Friday, April 1 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Iyer opened the batting for the Men in Gold and Purple, but couldn’t quite get going. He scored three runs before perishing to fast bowler Odean Smith.

In the fifth over of the game, Iyer tried to take Smith on, but couldn’t taste success. Smith churned out a good length delivery and the left-handed batter threw his hands at the ball. Iyer timed the ball with precision, but hit it straight to Brar, who was standing at the cover point region.

Brar didn’t take the catch in the first attempt and had to juggle a couple of times. The Young Turk showed a great amount of reflexes and helped Smith and PBKS get the all-important wicket.

As far as the game was concerned, PBKS lost the match by six wickets. After being put into bat first, the Punjab-based team got off to a blistering start. Although their skipper Mayank Agarwal got out early to Umesh Yadav, Bhanuka Rajapaksha’s nine-ball knock of 31 set the tone for the innings. But Punjab kept losing wickets at regular intervals.

In the end, Kagiso Rabada’s 25-run knock helped Punjab score 137 in 18.2 overs. Umesh was the pick of the KKR bowlers with four wickets to his name. Tim Southee also did an excellent task as he took a decent catch and pick up a couple of important wickets.

KKR found themselves in a bit of trouble after PBKS reduced them to 51 for four in seven overs. But Andre Russell showed his brute force and took the Knights over the finishing line. The Jamaican stayed unbeaten on 70 off a mere 31 balls and helped KKR chase down the target in 14.3 overs.

His knock was laced with two fours and as many as eight sixes. It also happened to be KKR’s second win in the tournament after the one against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on March 26. The Knights also made a comeback after the loss to the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).
