Imran Tahir is mostly known for bamboozling batters with his leg-breaks and googlies, and his audacious celebrations. But on Saturday, January 22, the world got to witness Tahir’s potential with the bat in hand. The now 42-year-old has four half-centuries in first class cricket, but he hasn’t done anything of significance while playing for the Proteas.

However, in the 2022 Legends League Cricket, the veteran played a stupendous knock of 52 runs off 19 balls with three fours and four sixes. With his herculean efforts, Tahir helped World Giants beat the India Maharajas by three wickets in Al Amerat.

Tahir came to bat when his team was struggling with their score at 160 for seven in the 17th over. At that point in time, the Giants needed 50 runs to win off 22 balls with only former Englishman Matthew Hoggard left to come.

From there on, Tahir threw the kitchen sink at everything and put on an unbeaten 50-run stand for the eighth wicket with Ryan Sidebottom off a mere 19 balls. After taking his team through to a win, Tahir was over the moon as he was seen celebrating with his teammates.

After opting to field first, the Giants faltered as the Maharajas racked up a colossal score of 209 for three on the board. Naman Ojha smashed his way to a 69-ball knock of 140, laced with 15 fours and nine sixes. Maharajas’ Skipper Mohammad Kaif lent him support, having scored a steady 47-ball 53 with one four and three sixes.

Yusuf Pathan, who got the Player of the Match award against the Asian Lions, hit a six off the only ball he faced. In the run-chase, Kevin Pietersen sparkled with a 27-ball 53, but the rest of the Giants’ batters found the going tough. Just when the Giants seemed down and out, Tahir came to the party and helped his team snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.
