WATCH: Ishan Kishan handed a Life as Liyanage Spills a Sitter during IND vs SL first T20I

Ishan Kishan has been struggling for confidence of late. He didn’t have the best outing in the T20Is against West Indies and the expensive price-tag from the IPL 2022 Auction was increasing the pressure on him as well. So, it was important for him to get some runs under his belt as he got yet another opportunity to open the innings in the first T20I against Sri Lanka and he did exactly that.

Kishan took off in the third over of the innings as he smashed Chamika Karunaratne for three boundaries. He went on a hitting spree after that as he smashed some really bad deliveries bowled by the Lankans to the boundary.

If the lack of discipline in bowling wasn’t enough, the visitors made life even more difficult for themselves when an easy catch was dropped in the seventh over of the innings.

India had posted 58/0 in the powerplay and it was mainly Kishan’s cameo that allowed the hosts to take off. The youngster looked unstoppable but leg-spinner Jeffrey Vandersay produced an opportunity when Kishan miscued a slog sweep in the fourth delivery of the seventh over.

Janith Liyanage had to make a long way in from the boundary to get to the ball. Even though Liyanage did that comfortably, he ended up spilling it as he couldn’t time his run and position his hands properly.

Kishan was batting on 43 when the catch was dropped and it allowed Kishan to continue on his way to a fifty. He was unbeaten on 73 off just 49 deliveries when this article was published.
