WATCH: USA international Jaskaran Malhotra hits six sixes in ODI; second-ever to do so
USA international Jaskaran Malhotra became the first from his country to hit an ODI hundred and went on to make it a momentous occasion by slamming six sixes off the last six balls in the over to become only then second in ODI history to do so after Herschelle Gibbs did it against Daan Van Bunge of Netherlands in the 2007 World Cup.
Jaskaran Malhotra, a wicketkeeper batsman born in Chandigarh, India made his USA debut in 2017 (although international numbers started in 2019) and has since been a mainstay with the national side. Before today, in six ODI games his highest score was 18.
Today, Jaskaran went on to slam 173 not out off a 124 balls with a stunning 16 maximums, the joint-second-highest by anyone in the format.
Walking in at No.5 with his team at 29/3 against Papua New Guinea, who are set to go to the T20 World Cup next month, Jaskaran slammed the first-ever ODI hundred by a USA player. Off the last over bowled by Gaudi Toka, a medium pacer, Jaskaran went berserk, landing sixes outside the rope for fun.
