England fast-bowler Katherine Brunt was involved in a hilarious incident in Thursday’s (March 24) ICC Women’s World Cup encounter against Pakistan in Christchurch.

Forced to stop just before she was about to get into her run-up, Brunt was left bemused and said she hates running extra.

No bowler likes to be stopped in his/her delivery stride and it was only expected that Katherine Brunt wouldn’t feel amused on one such on-field disturbance.

But her remarks caught by the stump mic made the incident funny as she let no one stand in any doubt how much she dislikes running extra for her deliveries and triggered laughs among fellow England cricketers.

Senior England cricketer Katherine Brunt was forced to stop in her run up.

Katherine Brunt “hate running extra”

The incident happened at the start of the 25th over in the Pakistan innings at Bay Oval in New Zealand. Running in to bowl at middle-order batter Aliya Riaz, Katherine Brunt was forced to halt her run-up after calls for “hang on, hang on!!” from her teammates.

Brunt immediately stopped in her run-up and looked up to find that wicketkeeper Amy Jones hadn’t yet worn her keeping gloves completely.

This is where the stump mic caught the bowler saying, “Oh god!!! hate running extra” as she went back to her bowling mark and finally completed the delivery.

The clip went viral over Twitter, with fans left in splits over Katherine Brunt’s reaction for the delay and halt in play.

Either side of that halt, though, it was a day that went according to plan for the England bowler. Brunt bagged superb figures of 3 for 18 off her 8 overs and played her part in dismissing the hapless Pakistani side for only 105.

Desperate for a victory, England recorded one by nine wickets and with more than 30 overs left in the proceedings, which boosted their NRR for the tournament.

Brunt has taken 4 wickets in the World Cup so far with an eye-catching economy rate of only 4.88. The 36-year-old right-arm seamer, potentially playing her last World Cup, will be hoping to continue her good run and help England defend their crown.
