Mentor MS Dhoni was seen working closely with his wicketkeeping successor Rishabh Pant at the sidelines of India’s second warm-up game ahead of the T20 World Cup 2021 in Dubai on Tuesday (October 20).

It was a case of a master helping the apprentice as Dhoni helped Pant take a few catches and see if there are any chinks in his glovework that the youngster needs to work on.

MS Dhoni’s entry into the Indian camp has been a blessing for young Pant, who is anyway progressing quite rapidly behind the stumps and now has a chance to take his game to the next level by learning a trick or two from one of the greatest himself.

MS Dhoni offers Rishabh Pant catching practise; offers advise ahead of T20 World Cup

With India opting to rest Rishabh Pant for the second and final warm-up fixture against the Aussies at the ICC Academy Ground in Dubai, the young gun got a chance to practise with the legendary MS Dhoni.

Pant and Dhoni were seen engaged in a practise drill just next to the boundary ropes at the ground.

The former India captain and wicketkeeper was seen offering a few low catches to his young successor in a short but sharp fielding session where the idea was to get Pant to move his hands freely as he receives the ball.

Dhoni made it a point to place a stump between him and Pant, which acted as a striker edging the ball.

Pant was trying to keep a track of the deflection from the stump and correctly anticipate the direction of the grab in a split second, as it happens in game scenarios.

Pant, who has never failed to point out how big an inspiration Dhoni has been through his journey, has a fantastic opportunity up his sleeves to work with his hero for the next three weeks.

In conditions in UAE where the ball is expected to keep low and turn as the Indian team goes deeper into the T20 World Cup, Virat Kohli and company need their keeper to be at his absolute best – both in front and behind the stumps.
