Often criticised for his control and consistency, Mitchell Starc can be a real handful when he gets it right. The left-arm pacer can be lethal with his slingy action when he moves the ball late in and out at high speeds.
On one such special delivery, he got Pakistan’s in-form Fawad Alam out on Day 3 of the Karachi Test. The Australian bowler delivered an absolute gem of a yorker that proved too good for the unorthodox left-hander.
Starc got it to angle in late into a moving Fawad, who was yet to properly get his downswing going when the ball jammed into his front pad and pinned him in front of the stumps in an easy LBW for the umpire.

The wicket ball arrived in a fearsome spell by Mitchell Starc, who got the fifth delivery of the 26th over in the Pakistani innings to swing in very late past Fawad Alam’s willow and sent him back LBW for a first-ball duck.

In many ways, Starc did to Fawad what most other bowlers have been trying without success since the experienced left-hander’s comeback to Test cricket for Pakistan.
While other seamers have failed to catch Fawad in the downswing despite his unorthodox stance, Starc’s speed and angle of his release are such that he beat them all to get the better of the batter.
It was another eye-catching example of what the 32-year-old pacer offers when in full rhythm and at his optimum speeds.
Finding his radar right has been an issue with Mitchell Starc at times, but when he does it get it right, he can be unplayable for the best of batters in world cricket. It is why the Australian selectors tend to persist with him through the difficult times.
