WATCH: MS Dhoni hints he will play IPL 2022 in virtual interaction

MS Dhoni is not having the best of time with the Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL) currently. However, in a virtual interaction with fans, the former Indian captain mentioned that there is a chance he will be in Chennai to play a farewell game, which hints at a lot of things about his future.

Dhoni was speaking to the fans during the live interaction hosted by India Cements, who are celebrating 75 years of their existence. A fan raised concern over not being having the opportunity to see him play one final time at the Chepauk, where he is a revered and godly figure for the club fans. But the 40-year-old provided an assurance, suggesting that he might play a farewell game at the Chidambaram stadium.

This potentially hints that MS Dhoni will bid farewell, and then play a friendly game at Chepauk for the fans. But that seems a bit unlikely as IPL franchises usually don’t get the time beyond the April-May window to gather again. Hence, there is a possibility we could see MS Dhoni in the IPL in 2022.

“You will get that opportunity to bid me farewell. Hopefully, we will come to see Chennai, and I will play my last game over there and I can meet all the fans,” MS Dhoni said during the live session.

MS Dhoni continues his horrible run with the bat

The last two seasons for MS Dhoni, which came after his retirement announcement, have been torrid for the only captain to have won 3 different ICC trophies. He scored just 200 runs last season and found his side not qualifying to the final four stages for the only time in their history. This time, his form has only worsened, scoring just 84 runs in 13 games.

The other day against the Delhi Capitals, Dhoni struggled to get bat on ball, and eventually scored just 18 runs off 27 balls without hitting a single boundary. This innings from the captain did not help Chennai’s cause, who put just 136 runs on board batting first, eventually losing the game by bare margins.
