WATCH: Non-striker throws bat at striker after run out confusion in village cricket
Whenever there’s confusion between two batters in the middle leading to a run-out, both individuals end up glaring at each other trying to play the blame game with their eyes. However, not often do we see things getting so heated that the non-striker throws bat at his partner. In this case, it was a little unintentional and unprecedented, but it was as comical as one could’ve asked for.
In a village cricket game in England, the world of cricket managed to witness one of the most interesting and hilarious passages of play. The slip fielder wearing shorts and the batter barely able to swing the bat to good effect and even the umpire was seen treating an itch, the scene was well setup for something crazy.
The ball bounced twice before meeting the bat and it was hit aerially towards the mid-off region, where a fielder was there. The non-striker sprinted his way up in anticipation of a run, only to realize he didn’t have time to even run backward. The mid-off fielder directly hit the stumps and dismissed the non-striker, leaving the batsman totally frustrated.
The agitated non-striker threw his bat in agony, without any control of where it would head towards. Quite unfortunately for him, it went and hit his batting partner on the chin and luckily, there wasn’t any major injury caused by this action of rage. He immediately went to the player to apologize and put his hand across the other player’s shoulder, to offer his commiserations.

Village Cricket is seen as one of the oldest and entertaining forms of the game, with the history of games between villages and parishes going all the way to the 17th century. However, due to the diminished quality of affairs, the term village cricket is used rather colloquially these days, in a deprecating sense.
