Afghanistan has done exceedingly well when it comes to producing wrist spinners day in and day out. After the emergence of Rashid Khan, Shafiqullah Ghafari and Qais Ahmad, it’s Noor Ahmad, who’s taking baby steps among the big boys of cricket. Having already featured in an Indian Premier League (IPL) auction, the youngster isn’t completely an unknown entity.

The 17-year-old is currently a part of Afghanistan’s squad in the ongoing U19 World Cup in the West Indies. In the first game against Papua New Guinea (PNG) on Tuesday, January 18, he picked up two crucial wickets and gave an account of his stupendous self. In the second match against Pakistan, Ahmad hasn’t flattered to deceive by any means.

He opened his account after dismissing Muhammad Shehzad, who was batting on 43 off 51 and was involved in a 60-run stand with Abdul Faseeh. Thereafter, he got rid of Irfan Khan with a deceptive wrong’urn. In the third ball of the 23rd over, Ahmad bowled a loopy delivery outside the off-stump and enticed the batter into going for a cover drive.

But the batter could only find an outside edge and Allah Noor took a simple catch in the slip cordon. Khan had a tough time in the middle as he scored four of 13 balls before perishing to a false stroke. Ahmad and the rest of the Afghan players were cock-a-hoop after the dismissal.

Noor Ahmad came into the mega event after having impressive outings in the Asia Cup in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). In three games, the left-arm wrist spinner picked up eight wickets at more than decent economy rates. Prior to that, Ahmad also plied his trade for the Galle Gladiators in the 2022 edition of the Lanka Premier League (LPL).
