Hobart Hurricanes cricketer Will Parker was involved in an excellent piece of fielding during the Eliminator of the Big Bash League (BBL) 2021-22 on Friday (January 21).

Parker made a jaw-dropping attempt to catch the ball near the boundary rope against Adelaide Strikers. While the fielder crashed with the rope and Strikers earned a maximum, it was the attempt from Hurricanes’ fielder that grabbed everyone’s attention.

Will Parker made a full-stretched dive near the long-on boundary and completed the catch. But the momentum was such that he crashed onto the ropes while trying to throw the ball back into the outfield.

Will Parker made an excellent dive to nearly pull off the catch of the BBL 2021-22.

Will Parker’s exhilarating catch attempt

The incident is from the fourth ball of 13th over in the Strikers’ first-innings. Facing Hurricanes’ part-time spinner D’Arcy Short, Strikers’ in-form batter Matthew Short smashed a short ball that everyone anticipated to sail over the boundary.

But just then, all of a sudden Will Parker emerged in the picture and nearly completed what many felt would’ve been the catch of the BBL 2021-22.

There was a sense of doubt involved whether Will Parker touching the ropes should amount to a four or a six. But since the ball had not contacted the turf at any stage while staying in the hands of Parker, it was rightfully declared as a maximum.

A six meant that Short could continue with his brilliant knock, as the right-hander finished with a sparkling 89 off 48 balls, including 4 fours and 6 sixes.

But that takes nothing away from Will Parker’s magnificent effort, which shall be revisited by cricket lovers whenever they speak one of T20 cricket’s finest fielding attempts near the boundary ropes.
