West Indies pacer Odean Smith displayed his batting prowess in the first ODI of the three-match series versus Ireland on Saturday (January 9).

In a tightly contested low-scoring fixture, Smith played a fantastic cameo of 18 runs off just 8 balls. The No.9 right-hander blazed his willow for a crucial quickfire knock and helped his team steer their score past the 260-mark.

West Indies finished with a competitive score of 269 despite being 62/4 at one stage and eventually won the game by 24 runs, taking a 1-0 lead in the series.

Odean Smith would’ve been satisfied to have contributed with both bat and ball to his team’s win, as he also took 2 wickets for 26 runs during the Irish run-chase.

But something really interesting and funny took place during the first half when Smith was smashing his willow to try and fetch as many runs as he can in the end overs. The aggressive lower-order bat ended up denting Sheldon Cottrell’s car placed just outside the Sabina Park with his maximum.

Odean Smith hits car standing outside Sabina Park in Jamaica

Odean Smith dented the roof of the car placed just next to the fence separating the parking lot in the stadium arena and the stand with the grass bank.

The incident happened during the 48th over of the West Indies innings. The third ball of the over bowled by left-arm pacer Joshua Little saw him overpitch one wide outside the off-stump. Waiting for such deliveries to unleash his wrath, Smith gave it the full monte and sailed the ball over the deep extra cover region.

But the ball didn’t just go over the boundary ropes, it sailed over the fences separating the grass bank region with the parking lot at the stadium and hit a car standing unmoved, denting its roof.

Amusingly, two men saw the ball hit the car roof in bemusement, while the commentators Niall O’Brien and Darren Sammy found the funny side of things.
