WATCH: QDK’s ridiculous leg-side stumping that got the stamp of approval from world’s best

Leg side stumpings are hard, and we’ve seen several wicketkeepers struggle to effect those under pressure in crucial junctures of the game. On Wednesday, Quinton de Kock pulled off a ridiculously good stumping to get rid of his opposite number – Rishabh Pant – in the first ODI of the three-match series between India and South Africa.

India seemed to be cruising in the run chase of 297 with Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli putting on a 92-run partnership, but Keshav Maharaj struck a telling blow for the Proteas when he had Dhawan cleaned up. Kohli completed his half-century, his fifth in his last six ODIs shortly afterward, but Tabraiz Shamsi got rid of him soon after to dent India’s chase further.

Shreyas Iyer was caught out on the pull, nicking one through to the wicketkeeper, and the onus was on Rishabh Pant to carry forward India’s run chase. The wicketkeeper batter, whose limited-overs career has not quite taken off like his long-format career at international level, looked to be in good touch until a sensational piece of work from de Kock got the better of him.

With Andil Phehlukwayo’s medium pace, de Kock moved up to the stumps to not allow Indian batters to bat outside the crease. Phehlukwayo fired one down the leg side of Pant from around the wicket and de Kock, sharp as ever, neatly moved across, calmly collected the ball and pulled off the bails with Pant still turning around.

The stumping was so good that he got the stamp of approval from the player often hailed as the world’s best wicketkeeper – Sarah Taylor of England. Famous for her outrageously quick hands, Sarah Taylor has hogged attention on social media for her stumping and she quote tweeted the official video from the South African handle to praise QDK.

The stumping was reminiscent of some of Sarah’s best stumping ever that gained immense attention on social media around 2018. De Kock’s stumping changed the course of India’s run chase with Pant’s wicket leading to a feeble tail that couldn’t really muster enough.
