Not often do we find wicket-keepers leave their gloves and roll their arm over. Adam Gilchrist did it only once, and it was off the final ball of his professional career for the Punjab Kings (formerly Kings XI Punjab) in the IPL, whilst MS Dhoni manage to pull out his medium pace occasionally and also is the owner of a wicket in ODI cricket. Dinesh Karthik is known for his good fielding exploits besides his keeping, but never did the watch-world see him bowl in a professional contest.

However, much to the surprise of many Indian cricket fans across the globe, Dinesh Karthik did manage to spur in some of his off-breaks during a Hong Kong Sixes game in 2011 against Pakistan. The 2011 season of the Hong Kong Cricket Sixes tournament took place at the Kowloon Cricket Club in Hong Kong. A total of 12 teams participated in the tournament including India.

It was the match between India and Pakistan where Dinesh Karthik bowled a total of 2 overs. Dinesh Karthik took a total of 2 wickets in the match and the Pakistani batsmen seemed baffled by the bowling action of DK. Karthik took the wickets of Sharjeel Khan and Sohail Tanvir in just one over while conceding just 12 runs.

Sharjeel Khan was dismissed trying to loft the ball over the cover boundary, only to find the deep fielder. Sohail Tanvir smashed a boundary off Karthik before swinging and missing once and then knicking the ball to the Indian keeper.

Dinesh Karthik is gearing up now for the second phase of IPL 2021 to be held in UAE, where the Kolkata Knight Riders have a mountain to climb. Having lost five out of seven games, the men in purple have a daunting task up ahead and they kick-start their second half of the contest with a game against Royal Challengers Bangalore on 20th September.
