Afghanistan wristspinner Rashid Khan is world renowned for his amazing exploits with the ball but is seldom given credit for being an effective lower-order powerhitter as well.

Rashid, who is a global T20 star popular in leagues around the world, has quickly risen into an impressive aggressor with the willow. The right-hand batter boasts of a T20 career strike-rate of 143.32 with over a thousand runs to his name.

There have been suggestions from various corners that his ex IPL franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) never did justice to Rashid’s batting potential by sending him up to try and maximise certain phases of the innings.

Rashid Khan seems to have that opportunity in his hand in Big Bash League (BBL) in Australia where he turns up for Adelaide Strikers. A telling example of the same came during Strikers’ latest BBL 2021-22 encounter versus Brisbane Heat on Wednesday (January 12).

Rashid was sent in for the start of the ‘Power Surge’ phase in Strikers’ innings against the Heat at the Gabba in Brisbane. Walking in at No.5, Rashid blazed his willow for a couple of gigantic sixes that sailed well over the ropes.

Rashid Khan’s enterprising cameo finishes with a strange dismissal

Facing right-arm seamer Xavier Bartlett, Rashid Khan hit two successive sixes. The first one, a fortunate one, hit the top-edge of Rashid’s willow and went over the wicketkeeper’s head for a maximum.

The second one was a whole lot more convincing, though, as the batter smashed Bartlett’s slower ball outside off for a terrific hit over the long-on boundary.

However, just when Rashid would’ve set his eyes on a more substantial cameo, he was outdone in a very strange form of dismissal by a delivery from fellow Afghanistan spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman.

The delivery arrived at the start of the very next over in the ‘Power Surge’. Hoping to maximise his time out in the middle, Rashid moved across to give himself room with the obvious intent to open up off-side field.

But Mujeeb was up to task, as he followed Rashid with an incoming delivery that evaded Rashid’s arc, hit his back leg and crashed onto the stumps.

The moment Mujeeb got the big fish, one could see a wry smile on his face, which was hilariously in complete contrast to the bemused look on Rashid Khan’s face.
