WATCH: Rohit Sharma’s bat flies after he loses grip on it; gifts an easy catch to Yashasvi Jaiswal

Luckily for Rohit Sharma, he did not have a lot to do, as on another day, his early dismissal could’ve meant trouble for the Mumbai Indians. His side were in total control of the game against Rajasthan Royals, chasing just 91 runs to win their 6th game of the season. He hit a couple of sixes in the very first over to consolidate Mumbai’s position further, but he had two blooper moments later on.

He first gifted a catching and stumping opportunity in the same ball to Sanju Samson, who failed to grab hold of that opportunity and missed the stumping as well. Fortune favored him only once and comically backstabbed him in the next attempt. Chetan Sakariya ran in to bowl at the Mumbai Indians skipper, who tried to monstrously heave it towards long-off.

He lost control of his grip just as he went to swing his bat, thus mistiming the ball and also sending the bat for an air ride. Yashasvi Jaiswal at covers took a fine catch to dismiss Rohit Sharma, but the Mumbai skipper had also lost his bat, which flew a few meters behind him. The way his bat traveled is an indication of how hard he goes at the ball, although it looks quite smooth on the eye when it comes off well.

Here’s the video of that hilarious incident, where Rohit Sharma’s bat nearly traveled longer than the ball.

Rohit Sharma leads the way with the bat for Mumbai

In their title-winning campaigns, the likes of Quinton de Kock, Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav might have played a more important role with the bat, but Rohit Sharma stepped the mantle this season. With Suryakumar and Ishan out of touch, and Quinton de Kock struggling to bear the pressure, Rohit managed to pull out some decent contributions and he is the highest run-scorer for the Mumbai Indians this season.

He now has 363 runs and will be desperate to add more to that tally in their final group game against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Mumbai Indians have opened the doors for themselves with this huge win over Rajasthan Royals, and will be in serious contention to qualify for the playoff despite a horrible outing in UAE.
