Rovman Powell was at his murderous best in the second T20I between West Indies and England at the Kensington Oval in Barbados. The 28-year-old right-hander became the Player of the Match after he played a 53-ball knock of 107 and helped the home team win the game by 20 runs on Thursday, January 27.

The Jamaica-born Powell came to bat after the hosts lost Brandon King and Shai Hope cheaply. From there on, he put on a partnership of 122 runs for the third wicket with Nicholas Pooran off 11 overs. En route his maiden T20I ton, Powell carted four fours and as many as 10 sixes.

Powell also became only the third batter after Chris Gayle and Evin Lewis to notch a T20I ton for the West Indies. On the back of his knock, West Indies racked up a massive score of 224 for five after being put in to bat first.

After playing the match-winning knock, Powell talked about his difficulties while facing the wrist spinners. Powell said that the hosts planned to see off Adil Rashid and take the attack to the other Three Lions’ bowlers.

“Overall improvements… I can strike the ball good ball but a little problem with wrist-spin, I’ve worked on opening up the off side. Rashid is the most threatening of the bowlers, so get 20-30 off him and limit the wickets,” Powell said in the post-match presentation ceremony.

“There’s a big side and a short side, so we didn’t want two right-handers at the crease. Communicating and sharing the workload was key today. Everything came out of the middle today,” he added.
