The India-Pakistan U-19 Asia Cup Group A fixture eventually came down to the last ball on Saturday (December 25) where the thrilling encounter ended in Pakistan’s favour.

The match played at the ICC Academy Ground No.2 in Dubai saw Pakistan U-19s reach the winning post off the very last ball when they needed a further 2 runs.

Facing Indian left-arm pacer Ravi Kumar, Pakistan No.8 Ahmad Khan made the defining blow, as he hit a fantastic pull shot that fetched the on-side boundary. The moment the ball left Khan’s bat, he knew it is going to be a four and he started rushing towards his teammates in celebration mode.

The scenes were of complete contrast within the Indian camp as Kumar and wicketkeeper-batter Aaradhya Yadav looked in disappointment and despair.

Pakistan U-19s won the crucial Asia Cup encounter against Indian U-19s.

Ahmad Khan hits unbeaten 29 to take Pakistan U-19 through in Asia Cup encounter

The boundary from Ahmad’s bat won the cliffhanger for Pakistan just when it seemed they could mess up the chase of 238 against India U-19s. With 8 required off the final over, Ahmad’s calm head and sensible approach allowed him to take Pakistan home with a memorable four.

Ahmad’s last-ball four wasn’t the only boundary he hit during his priceless innings of 29. The lower-order bat struck 3 fours and 1 six off his 19-ball stay. When Ahmad arrived at the crease, with Pakistan 206/6, India had a major sniff and it was felt that the Indians could run through the Pakistan lower-order.

But Ahmad played the saviour for his side and took them home when they were desperate for some crucial runs down the batting order.

His innings also took Pakistan U-19s through to the semi-final of the junior Asia Cup and has inadvertently set up a virtual quarterfinal in Group A between Indian U-19s and Afghanistan U-19s on Monday (December 27).
