WATCH: Umesh sizzles on comeback; cleans India’s nemesis Joe Root up with unplayable inswinger

India had two forced changes on Thursday for the fourth Test against England and one of them was Umesh Yadav coming in, an unforeseen change with the seamer usually warming the benches on away tours.

Given a chance, with a green top and overcast conditions, Umesh looked threatening from the get-go, like Jasprit Bumrah, who sent back the two openers. With Joe Root walking in, though, the momentum changed as the England batsman, top-scorer of the series, started off all guns blazing.

The pitch seemed flattened out and the runs were flowing when Umesh produced a jaffa out of nowhere. Steaming in from over the wicket, Umesh swung the ball away from the right hander before it nipped back in to leave Root stunned.

The ball sneaked between bat and pad and a bewildered Root and crashed into the stumps, leaving England without their main batting gun at stumps overnight.

England finished on 53/3, trailing India’s total by a 138 runs. Though England enjoyed the better day, Umesh’s sensational ball to Root brought some parity to the day’s play.
