WATCH: Umran Malik’s pacy bouncer at practice session goes viral on social media

Umran Malik joined the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) after being roped in as a replacement for fast bowler T. Natarajan, who had tested positive for COVID-19. The pacer had played only a couple of games for Jammu and Kashmir prior to the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). He got a chance in the playing eleven after the Sunrisers were knocked out of the competition.

But the pacer impressed one and all with his sheer pace. He ran in with ferocity and delivered some thunderbolts to some of the best batters in the world. Prior to the mega auction that took place on February 12 and 13 in Bangalore, the Orange Army decided to throw up a massive surprise. The fact that they retained Kane Williamson didn’t befuddle people since he was named as the skipper.

But Umran Malik and young all-rounder Abdul Samad’s retentions raised quite a few eyebrows. The Sunrisers went into the auction after releasing the likes of Jonny Bairstow, David Warner, Rashid Khan and Jason Holder. Umran, however, is deemed as one of the fastest bowlers in India of late.

Malik showed some of his skills during SRH’s practice session before the tournament gets underway on Saturday, March 26. The youngster bowled from around the wicket and hurled a vicious bouncer at the batter. The left-handed batter was caught a tad off-guard and he somehow ducked under it.

Malik has played three first-class, one List A and eight T20 matches thus far in which he has picked a combined tally of 19 wickets. He also has a four-wicket haul to show for his efforts. Back in February, he played two matches in the Ranji Trophy and picked up six wickets. He will now be looking to perform for the Sunrisers in the upcoming edition of the IPL.

Last year, SRH finished at the bottom of the points table and the management sacked Warner as their skipper. The Sunrisers are set to start their IPL 2022 campaign against Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Tuesday, March 29 at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune.
