Australia limited-overs skipper Aaron Finch has declared that his team will not be taking the knee as a mark of solidarity with the ‘Black Lives Matter’ movement prior to their fixtures against England.

The T20I series against England starting tonight will be Australia’s first post lockdown. It will also be their first fixture since the brutal killing of American citizen George Floyd.

Earlier this summer, in the first International game post the 3-month lockdown period all over the world, both England and the West Indies Cricket team took a knee ahead of the start of every Test match. However, the gesture was not made in the following Test series against Pakistan. The gesture was also performed by players from South Africa during the 3TC Solidarity Cup.

Finch, speaking to the TelegraphSport, explained, “The education around it is more important than the protest. I have spoken to Eoin (Morgan) and we are not going to do specific gestures like it has happened in the past.

“For us, we are really proud to play a game where it is celebrated all around the world and anyone can play it. It doesn’t matter what race, what religion, what nationality you are from. Cricket is a game for everyone and I am really proud about that.”
