Pakistan’s Awais Ali made a brilliant start to the ICC U-19 World Cup 2022 on Monday (January 17), taking a rare six-fer in his team’s victory over Zimbabwe.

The right-arm seamer finished with astonishing figures of 6 for 56 off his 8.4 overs in Pakistan’s resounding win by 115 runs after posting a gigantic 315/9 in the first half.

Awais ran through the Zimbabwean batting unit to signal his arrival at the youth World Cup in the Caribbean, where he has a fantastic opportunity to showcase his talent at the big stage and take a giant leap in his cricketing journey.

Awais Ali is making his U-19 World Cup debut aged 16.

From the land of fast-bowling, Awais Ali was born in December 2005 in Sialkot. The 16-year-old quick is quite early into his journey with the Pakistan U-19s. He made his national debut in the U-19 circuit with the recently concluded youth Asia Cup in UAE.

Awais picked up six wickets from his three outings of that tournament, including a best of 2 for 9 versus Afghanistan U-19, before entering his maiden U-19 World Cup for Pakistan. He had also bagged figures of 2/43 versus arch-rivals India and 2/27 against Sri Lanka in Dubai.

After having warmed up to the conditions in West Indies with a pre-tournament fixture versus Canada, Awais Ali unleashed his wrath on hapless Zimbabwe batters in Diego Martin in Trinidad & Tobago.

The 16-year-old fast-bowler earned his youth Asia Cup and World Cup call-up after impressing the junior selection committee with his terrific performances in the U-19 domestic one-day Cup in Pakistan. Awais picked up a whopping 34 wickets in the competition.

 

Awais Ali holds a big dream of representing Pakistan at the international stage and says his current favourite cricketer is skiddy pacer Hasan Ali and his all-time favourite cricketer is the legendary allrounder Imran Khan.

Awais, who is currently studying in the first year of junior college, says his favourite Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise is Islamabad United.
