IPL 2020: SRH vs KKR Game Plan 3 – KKR’s Middle Over Woes

SRH vs KKR – The thirty-fifth match of the IPL 2020 tournament between the teams, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knight Riders, could all be about match-ups. We take a look at a key game plan that could play a role in the thirty-fifth game of the IPL – SRH vs KKR

SRH vs KKR – Kolkata’s middle overs struggle

On paper, Kolkata Knight Riders have one of the strongest and most explosive middle-order batting units. A middle-order comprising of Nitish Rana, Eoin Morgan, Dinesh Karthik and Andre Russell is capable of outplaying any opposition on their day. But quite unfortunately for KKR, they have not clicked as a unit on most occasions, at least as per their own standards.

Numbers clearly suggest how no single batsman has managed to ace the middle overs this season; the ones who have scored at a good pace have been dismissed way too easily and the ones who have been stable have scored at a slow pace. The form of Dinesh Karthik and Andre Russell has been a big worry for KKR, as they are the two batsmen they have relied on heavily in the last couple of years for the finishing job. But them getting out so often in the middle overs just does not allow them to launch in the death overs.

But the question is not just about stability or the lack of it. It also needs to be seen if they maintain the scoring rate high at the cost of losing wickets so often.

As evident from the numbers, KKR batsmen not only ha e the lowest average in middle overs, they also have the second-slowest scoring rate among all teams this season. This is an area the Knight Riders will need to work upon going forward in the tournament, may be a settled order with clear roles will help the cause.

For SRH, they need to exploit this weakness of the Knight Riders to the fullest and they have the right resources to execute the same in Rashid Khan and Shahbaz Nadeem.
