A major talking point from Sunday’s game was KL Rahul’s absence. The PBKS skipper was diagnosed with acute appendicitis, and is likely ruled out of the remainder of the season. Mayank Agarwal was appointed as the captain of Punjab, in Rahul’s absence.  Rishabh Pant won the toss and elected to field first.

Punjab Kings managed to score just 166 runs in their 20 overs, courtesy of a brilliant knock from Mayank Agarwal. The Indian batsman smashed an unbeaten knock of 99 runs, and batted right until the end. However, his knock was not enough, as Shikhar Dhawan carried his team past the finishing line.

Mayank Agarwal impresses on his captaincy debut

DC vs PBKS: Mayank Agarwal scored 99 runs against DC

Mayank Agarwal led from the front in his first game in-charge of Punjab Kings. Mayank batted for the entirety of 20 overs, and scored 99 runs in just 58 balls. The knock included 8 fours and 4 sixes, as he decimated the DC bowling lineup. No other batsman could get among the runs, as Chris Gayle and Dawid Malan failed to capitalize on their starts.

Dawid Malan made his IPL debut on Sunday, and scored 26 runs in as many balls, before being dismissed by Axar Patel. Chris Gayle was undone by some brilliant bowling from Kagiso Rabada.

Kagiso Rabada back to his best

Kagiso Rabada picked up three wickets against PBKS

Kagiso Rabada was back to his best against Delhi Capitals on Sunday. The South African pacer has not been in the best form this season, and conceded several runs, without picking up wickets. Rabada won the Purple Cap last season, after he picked up 30 wickets.

The Protea pacer picked three wickets against Delhi Capitals, whilst conceding 36 runs in his four over spell. He picked up the key wicket of Chris Gayle, who was dismissed for just 13 runs. Axar Patel also did a fine job with the ball, picking up one wicket in his four over spell and conceding just 21 runs.

Shikhar Dhawan continues his good form

Shikhar Dhawan carries on with his good form

Shikhar Dhawan continued his good form this season, as he scored an unbeaten knock of 69 runs on Sunday. The Delhi batsman has been in red-hot form this year, and has 380 runs to his name already. Last year, he managed to score over 600 runs, and he has carried on with the same consistency.

Prithvi Shaw scored another quickfire knock as the duo provided a solid start to Delhi Capitals once again. With their victory against PBKS, Delhi now move to the top of the table, having won 6 matches from their 8 games so far. A couple of more wins could help them secure a top two finish, which will give them two shots of reaching the final.
