IPL 2021 most likely to be played in Mumbai hub : Reports

After successfully hosting the 13th edition of the IPL in UAE, the BCCI are looking at a similar arrangement in India this time, with minimal travel ensuring matches being played in a hub, with five stadiums across Mumbai and Pune being earmarked for the same.

With IPL Chairman Brijesh Patel and ICA representative Pragyan Ojha being entrusted with the responsibility of chalking out the feasibility, there were doubts if the IPL would be played in India or being shifted to UAE like last time.

However, according to a fresh report by Times of India, the Wankhede, Brabourne Stadiums, DY Patil Stadium, Reliance Cricket Stadium in Navi Mumbai, and the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) Stadium on the outskirts of Pune are earmarked as the five options for the 14th edition.

IPL set to start in April second week

As is normally the case in the pre-pandemic world, the entire Indian summer will be consumed by the IPL, with the second week of April being chalked out for the first game. The final will be played sometime in the last week of May in Ahmedabad.

“India can’t not host the IPL at home and say, it is ready to host the T20 World Cup later in the year. The BCCI conducted a very impressive IPL under a well-constructed bio-secure bubble when the pandemic was at its peak. There’s no reason why the BCCI can’t construct the same bubble here at home,” sources say, reported ToI.
