Since debuting in 2020, Kyle Jamieson has taken the world of cricket by storm. However, even in his wildest dreams Kyle couldn’t have possibly imagined becoming the fourth most expensive IPL purchase of all time. The 26-year-old will ply his trade for Royal Challenger Bangalore this season, who secured his services for INR 15 crores.

How RCB won the bidding war for Kyle Jamieson

RCB got entangled in a bidding war for Jamieson who has never previously played in the IPL before. Bangalore proved to be successful in their attempt and have added an exciting fast-bowling all-rounder to their team. The Kiwi will be a welcome addition given that the franchise released Chris Morris ahead of the auction.

Jamieson’s numbers in T20 cricket are definitely very impressive. He has picked up 54 wickets in 38 matches at an average of 20.59, and also has a decent economy rate well below 8 runs an over. With the bat, Kyle has a strike rate of 138.68 and can definitely play some solid knocks here and there.

On the international stage, Kyle Jamieson has shone the most in the longest format of the sport. In just six Tests, he has picked up 36 wickets at an average of 13.28! He’s also recorded an average of 56.5 in Test cricket. Though his numbers in T20Is haven’t been the same, the potential is definitely there.

Ahead of the auction, Gautam Gambhir mentioned that Kyle Jamieson could end up becoming the ‘next Andre Russell.’ Only time will tell whether he can live up to the hype.
