Shivam Mavi produced a career-best performance on Thursday night to help Kolkata Knight Riders to a thumping 86-run win over Rajasthan Royals. KKR have one foot in the playoffs stages ahead of the final day of league matches thanks partly to Mavi whose scintillating spell of 4/21 helped him win the Player of the Match award.

At the post-match presentation ceremony where he was given the award, Murali Kartik, the presenter, interviewed him for a couple of minutes, addressing him as ‘Shivam’ after initially calling out his name correctly from the script.

At the end of the interview. however, Kartik concluded by saying,”Shivam Dube – the Man of the Match tonight and that concludes the presentation”

Often trolled for his comments and commentary, Kartik came under scrutiny yet again for addressing the player with a wrong name and not even bothering to correct it.

What happens to qualifying scenarios?

With KKR thumping R by 86 runs, their net run rate has shot up skywards and their place in the playoffs is all but a formality ahead of Mumbai Indians’ crucial game against Sunrisers Hyderabad.  According to current calculations, Mumbai Indians need to win by 171 runs or more if batting first to go above KKR in the net run rate equation and qualify. On the flip side, if Mumbai are put in to field first by Kane Williamson on Friday, they will immediately be knocked out of the tournament and KKR will be assured of a playoffs berth.
