3 Oval Invincibles Players who could end up with most runs in The Hundred Men’s Competition 2021

Oval Invincibles are a franchise representing famous county clubs Surrey and Kent in the inaugural edition of The Hundred in the UK this summer. The Invincibles are, as their first name says, based at the iconic Oval ground in London.

They’ll get to play four of their eight league stage fixtures at their home venue and move around UK for the rest of the campaign, with a top finish in the points table guaranteeing them entry into the tournament final at Lord’s. Finishing 2nd or 3rd will allow Oval Invincibles to contest the eliminator, which will decide the second finalist.

The Invincibles, who take on Manchester Originals to kickstart the competition on July 22, are carrying a decent squad into The Hundred despite the tournament experiencing a massive talent exodus in recent weeks due to a variety of reasons. They have the likes of Colin Ingram, Jason Roy, Sam Billings part of their batting group and Sunil Narine, Sandeep Lamichhane among others to look after the bowling.

With focus on batting depth today, we tried to enlist players from the Oval Invincibles outfit who can be prolific run-scorers and finish on top of the run-charts in the inaugural season of The Hundred.

Oval Invincibles batsmen who could finish as the highest run-maker of The Hundred 2021

1. Colin Ingram

Ingram, the talented former South African left-hand batsman, is one of Oval Invincibles’ overseas players for the summer. Ingram has been a popular feature in leagues around the world since ending his international career with the Proteas and has now built quite a significant T20 record next to his name.

The 36-year-old batter recently went past 7,000 runs in overall T20 cricket. He has struck 7,073 runs from 290 matches at a strike-rate of 138.33. Ingram hasn’t got going for Glamorgan in the T20 Blast this summer, but can be vital for Oval Invincibles.

2. Jason Roy

Explosive England white-ball opener Jason Roy is also part of the Oval Invincibles for The Hundred this summer. Roy has been one of the most explosive batsmen in international limited-overs cricket. He has now played 98 ODIs and 45 T20Is for England and boasts of nearly 5,000 runs in the two formats combine. He has an ODI strike-rate of 107.27 and T20I strike-rate of 141.90. Roy can be devastating for opposition bowlers and teams if he finds his best touch.

3. Sam Billings

Despite his undoubted talent, promising right-hand batsman Sam Billings has managed to play only 25 ODIs and 32 T20Is for England since his first entry into the limited-overs set up back in 2015. But even irregular chances haven’t had a negative influence on Billings, who has from time to time produced knocks that reflect his class and temperament.

Not part of three lions’ first-choice T20I XI right now, Billings will have the opportunity to strengthen his case ahead of the T20 World Cup with a stint for Oval Invincibles in The Hundred. Some strong performances in the 100-ball competition will not only turn the selectors’ heads his way but also help the Invincibles make swift progress towards the coveted title.
