3 Southern Brave Players who could end up with most runs in The Hundred Men’s Competition 2021

Representing the famous county clubs of Hampshire and Sussex, Southern Brave are among the eight participating franchises eyeing the coveted maiden title of The Hundred this summer in the UK.

The inaugural 100-ball competition will see Southern Brave play four of their eight league games at their home venue – Southampton’s Ageas Bowl – and move around the country for the rest of the campaign.

The quest will be to ensure a top 3 finish in the points table, which will keep them in contention for The Hundred trophy. The team that ends the league stage as table topper will get a direct berth into the competition final at Lord’s on August 21, while the second and third placed sides will have to contest an eliminator to bag the second finalist’s spot.

The Southern Brave boast of some notable names in their bowling attack, including the likes of Jofra Archer, Chris Jordan and Tymal Mills. But their batting unit also features some prominent individuals such as Quinton de Kock, James Vince and Devon Conway.

It’s these willow-holders that we are focusing on today in trying to enlist few names who could potentially dominate their way through the tournament and finish on top of the run-charts in the first iteration of The Hundred.

Can James Vince fulfill his potential for Southern Brave?

Who among Southern Brave batsmen can finish as the highest run-maker in The Hundred?

1. Quinton de Kock

South Africa’s experienced wicketkeeper-batsman Quinton de Kock joined the Southern Brave roster after the final round of player movement that The Hundred has experienced. De Kock will be entering the tournament in some red hot form, as he finished as the top run-maker from either side in the recent T20I series in West Indies. Relieved of the captaincy burden, the explosive left-hand batsman struck 255 runs at an average of 51.00 and strike-rate of 141.67 in conditions where the ball didn’t always come onto the bat nicely.

2. Devon Conway

Everything that Devon Conway has touched since the start of his international career has turned into gold. Conway, born in South Africa, has had a magnificent beginning at the highest level. He is averaging 63.16 and 75.00 after three Tests and three ODIs each for the Kiwis and has an exceptional T20I record to his name as well in his early days.

Conway’s 11 innings in T20Is have seen him blaze his willow for 473 runs at an eye-catching strike-rate of 151.11 while maintaining an average of 59.12. Conway has been one of New Zealand’s biggest pluses in the last one year and will be looking to continue his rich vein of form when he turns up Southern Brave.

3. James Vince

Highly talented right-hand batsman James Vince could also be in the running to be The Hundred’s top run-maker if he finds his best touch. Vince was dropped from England’s setup across formats last summer but has been brought back into the ODI outfit in accidental circumstances for the ongoing Pakistan series, something that shall boost his confidence.

Even though he hasn’t got going in the T20 Blast this summer with only 161 runs from his 7 innings for Hampshire at a strike-rate of just 121.05, Vince’s class and overall ability remain undoubted. Southern Brave will hope that he can fulfil his potential and promise for them in The Hundred.
