IPL 2021: Twitterati reacts as Boult breaks Suresh Raina’s bat and sends him back to the pavilion

In what turned out to be a traumatic start for the Chennai Super Kings in the resumption of IPL 2021, they lost three of their top order batters without doing much and in addition to that, Ambati Rayudu is out injured. But the one that rubs the salt on the wound, is the dismissal of Suresh Raina, where the former Indian cricketer went for nothing shot and got dismissed.

In addition to the humiliation of the dismissal, the ball hit the bottom of the blade and broke a good part of the bat, which got the Twitter universe talking. Mumbai Indians had launched a full-throttle pace attack for this fixture, with Adam Milne, Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult. Even before the entry of the Indian talismanic bowler, Boult and Milne had done a great deal of the damage.

Concerning times for Suresh Raina

Suresh Raina has not been at the top of his game for a while now and has just 127 runs in 8 innings this season. The man who once held the top position in the list of most runs in IPL, has now found two of his Indian teammates overtake him in Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan. Raina, who had missed the last season in UAE for some off-field reasons, is back in the middle east now and the conditions here for batting don’t get any easy.

The Chennai batting-order holds a lot of experienced players who aren’t a major part of international cricket across formats, which put them under immense pressure last season in these challenging batting conditions. They are in desperate need for Raina to get back in form, and in that pursuit, he’s off to a bad start.

The Twitter universe found the funny side in Raina’s dismissal and produced some comical tweets. Here’s a small collection of some of them.
