Experienced West Indies batter Deandra Dottin lifted her team’s spirits with an excellent piece of fielding at the start of the run-chase against England in a crucial ICC Women’s World Cup encounter in Dunedin.

Dottin’s eye-catching grab spurred her West Indies teammates on, as the Caribbean women went on to record another major upset in the tournament.

Having beaten tournament hosts New Zealand in their opening match, West Indies record another critical win over England, restricting them to 218 after posting a fighting 225/6 of their own. In an impressive performance, the Calypso Queens took the fight back to their more-fancied opposition and eventually overhauled them.

But what triggered this inspiration effort was a terrific fielding effort by Deandra Dottin, whose outstanding catch gave West Indies their first wicket when England were threatening to lay a solid foundation to their chase and run away with the game.

Deandra Dottin makes eye-catching grab in West Indies’ victory over England

The magnificent piece of fielding was on display at the start of the ninth over of the England innings. Having added 31 runs in the first eight overs, England openers Lauren Winfield Hill and Tammy Beaumont were looking in supreme touch and the West Indies needed a moment of encouragement.

That came about through their experienced opening batter Deandra Dottin, who helped dismissed her opposition counterpart Winfield with an eye-catching grab with her left hand placed in the point region.

Even as Winfield timed the short and wide delivery from right-arm seamer Tammy Beaumont, she couldn’t dispatch the ball past Dottin’s hand in one of the catches of the tournament.

Winfield’s wicket then kickstarted a procession of regular wickets that fell in the England innings as Deandra Dottin inspired a fantastic turnaround for the West Indies, playing an important part in her team’s close-fought seven-run victory at the end.
