England captain Heather Knight on Sunday (March 20) took one of the catches of the ongoing ICC Women’s World Cup 2022, sending New Zealand’s Lea Tahuhu back with an astonishing grab on the out-field.

Knight jumped to her right and took the catch with both her feet in the air, completing an exciting piece of fielding at the short cover position.

Tahuhu could only watch Heather Knight do her thing in disbelief as she miscued her attempted cover drive, which gave the England skipper just enough time to sight the ball and make her valiant attempt.

England skipper Heather Knight pulls off a magnificent catch

The exhilarating sight of Heather Knight diving to her right and taking the catch with both her legs in the air was on show in its full glory on the second ball of the 39th over in the New Zealand innings.

Hoping to get off the mark, lower-order batter Tahuhu played a drive through covers off the bowling of left-arm spinner Sophie Ecclestone. But she mistimed the ball in the air and saw Knight take one of the most exciting catches seen in the tournament.

Heather Knight’s magnificent catch helped England send Tahuhu back without a run on the board and triggered New Zealand’s downfall to just 203 all out in a must-win encounter for them.

The skipper later went on to score a watchful 42 off 53 deliveries to push her team towards victory.

Ultimately, the innings played by Knight proved very handy to England’s cause as they won the cliff-hanger of a game by just one wicket.

Chasing a paltry 204-run target, England were comfortably placed at 176/4 thanks largely to Knight and fellow experienced middle-order batter Natalie Sciver’s critical 61 off 108 balls.

But soon the defending champions collapsed and lost their way to be reduced to 196/9. It then required the calming head of Anya Shrubsole (7* off 10 balls) to take England through to a win.

With their win, England rejuvenated their dwindling World Cup campaign. They now stand fifth in the eight-team points table with two wins and three losses.

Heather Knight & company will next take on Pakistan in Christchurch on Thursday (March 24).
