WATCH: Rohit Sharma tries his hand at the helicopter shot in the Mumbai Indians nets ahead of IPL 2022

Rohit Sharma is known for playing all kinds of attacking shots regardless of the format he’s taking part in. The 34-year-old made his debut back in 2017 and after 15 years, he became the skipper of the Indian national cricket team in all three formats. Sharma is mostly known for his pull and hook shots. While the shots have fetched him runs, they have also got him out.

In fact, Rohit Sharma can play the pull and hook off his front foot and hit the ball in front of square. Recently, he tried his hand at another shot, which was made famous by former Indian captain MS Dhoni more than a decade ago. During the Mumbai Indians (MI) net session before the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, Rohit Sharma tried to play the iconic helicopter shot.

He played shots, both off the front and back foot, looking at his very best. He timed the helicopter shot to perfection as the ball sailed into the night-sky at deep mid-wicket. The right-handed batter also used his feet to good effect.

Rohit played an important role for the Mumbai-based team in the last few years. Back in 2013, he took over from Ricky Ponting as the skipper of the team. In the same year, MI won their maiden title and from there on, the team didn’t look back. MI are the most successful team in the history of the IPL, having won the championship as many as five times.

Prior to the mega auction on February 12 and 13, MI retained four players, Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah and West Indies limited-overs skipper Kieron Pollard. Last year, Mumbai failed to qualify for the playoffs after their batters couldn’t quite step up.

MI will start their campaign in IPL 2022 on Sunday, March 27 against the Delhi Capitals (DC), led by Rishabh Pant, at the Brabourne Stadium. Rohit is currently third in the list of leading run-scorers in the history of the IPL. He has scored 5611 runs from 213 runs at an average of 31.17 and a strike rate of 130.39.
